Lydia, Golden Retriever For Adoption In Louisville, Kentucky

Location:
Louisville, KY
Description:

Lydia is a 3-4 year old, 50ish lb beautiful Golden who had some health issues she has overcome and is waiting for her forever famiy!!! Lydia was found beside of a country road, having a seizure. Now she's stable /seizure-free on daily generic med, loves the yard, loves to snuggle, loves deli meats, is on the lazy side walking - we are working to wake up her inner athlete! Her foster mom says: "Lydia is doing well on walks. Goes at a leisurely pace. I’m using the martingale collar. No chewing on the leash. Occasionally she comes to an halt and requires some coaxing to get moving again. Likes running and playing around the yard. Settles down easily after some attention. She is a very low energy dog and is completely house trained. She is very food focused. Hopefully that will decrease once she’s no longer on a diet. She is not currently living with a dog or cat. We enticed her with a treat to get in the car, and she did great and is proving to be a great car rider! Lydia does not play w/toys but will show interest in a yummy peanut butter kong! She has shown no signs of food aggression. Lydia responds to verbal correction and is very, very gentle when receiving treats from foster’s hands. Lydia has shown no signs of “stranger danger”. When a couple of repairman came to foster’s house, Lydia had no anxiety; she was friendly and accepting of their attention. Lydia has not been tested with cats or kids yet, however, at this time, she is a very laid back dog with not much interest in play, so it is felt that a calm home with no small kids is best... maybe an older laid back couple to fit her personality, who is willing to walk Lydia, and is patient in socializing her would be a good fit and her petite size would certainly be an advantage for chill people looking for a lovely companion". She learned to navigate to steps; she is comfortable in her own dog bed or crate and sleeps through the night, is housebroken and she has free reign of house at nighttime. She will let foster know if she needs to go out during the night by just coming up the foster's bed! When Lydia wants to go out during the day, she will either come to the foster OR go stand at the door. During the day, the house front door is open to a locked glass door; Lydia can see out and she really does not show much interest in the outside world. She is not a barker and she pays no attention to the dogs who live behind her foster mom's 6 foot privacy fence. When dogs bark at Lydia on a walk, she just ignores them. She is crate trained; her foster mom will throw a couple of treats in the crate, Lydia goes in and lays down and has no anxiety when foster mom secures the door. NOTE: Lydia is ONLY left in crate when foster mom has to leave the house for short periods of time. Her leash skills are improving; foster mom is using a short leash to walk Lydia in the neighborhood. When on walks she sniffs and acts like a normal dog! When Lydia wants love she comes to her foster mom for attention; Lydia will pull away if she is approached and she is not in the mood for TLC". It appears that Lydia has not been socialized before coming to GRRAND. The foster mom thinks she would do ok being placed with another dog, but would also need to be a laid back dog. Lydia has not been tested with cats or kids yet, however, at this time, a non-chaotic home with small kids is not for her anyway. She has shown no separation anxiety, no aggression, and is a very quiet dog who seldom barks. Lydia is a very friendly and laid back dog, who would love to find her forever home! If you are interested in fostering or adopting her, please fill out an app at GRRAND.org and our screening team will reach out to you to get started with the process.##1850275##Adoption processGRRAND requires that the dog is returned if it doesn't work out or if circumstances change and the owner cannot keep the dog. Also, there is a follow-up team that will contact the adopter after the adoption to assist with any questions.
